Core Academics

To ensure both alignment and progression through K-8, we group together our grade into pods. Each pod works closely together to develop curriculum and assessments that is rigorous, yet grade-appropriate, and prepares each individual student for a smooth transition from grade-to-grade.

Grades K-2

Students build a strong foundation by focusing on phonics, reading, writing, problem solving, and our Catholic faith.  Hands-on activities and multi-sensory techniques are important parts of this development. Social skills and developing relationships are evident through learning procedures and routines. Technology is minimally introduced to enhance the learning process. UFLI Foundations (phonics) combined with Smekens (reading, writing) are used primarily for Literacy; the entire school uses Reveal Math for math instruction.

Grades 3-4

Students begin to apply the content and skills developed in K-2.  Grammar, Usage, and Mechanics is introduced in the writing process and multiplication facts are added to the math content. Students begin to fully explore their environment in Science and Social Studies. Curriculum in these grades is geared to empower students to gain more confidence and independence with their work and to develop responsibilities and core values within their faith. Technology further enhances the learning process. UFLI Foundations (phonics) combined with Smekens (reading, writing) and Vocabulary Workshop (Sadlier) are used primarily for Literacy; the entire school uses Reveal Math for math instruction.

Grades 5-6

Designed as an intermediate school, with the comfort of strong teacher support, students begin to demonstrate the responsibility and accountability in their actions. Each content area has a specialized teacher in that subject, which allows the individual teacher to develop a 2-year curriculum plan. Students follow an individual schedule and travel to each class. Each student has access to school-issued iPads.

Grades 7-8

Comprise as our middle school, students prepare for their transition to high school. Our teachers, like in grades 5-6, are content-area specialists who add rigor and real-life application to the material. A challenging curriculum,  emphasized with the skills and strategies they are most needed for high school and beyond, is prepared by our teachers. Students in our middle school are looked upon as the leaders of our school community and are held to the highest standards for responsibility and accountability.
